Automated import using our FTP server
Article created: Aug 29 2017, updated: Mar 28 2018
There are two methods for importing data into Crash Magic. The first is the standard manual process. The second method utilizes our FTP server and can therefore be fully automated.
Info - "how to" article
Crash Magic provides the ability to convert and import crash record data from a variety of formats. When the source data is provided in XML format, Pd' Programming can configure our server with the ability to receive new data via FTP.
Since there are FTP clients that can also be automated, this makes it possible to have a hands-off approach to keeping your data up-to-date.
In order to set up your system to send crash data directly to Crash Magic unattended, you first need your XML source data. Also, Crash Magic will need to have a working "import definition" that understands how to read that data. Once you have both of these things, you are ready to have your upload automated.
Request an FTP account with Pd' Programming. We will require that you tell us your IP address. This must be a static IP, (
) as it will be checked every time you upload data. We will provide you with a login and password.
Once you have your account, you should test your automated upload process. Upload to your
/XMLtoDB. Your account will permit you to upload/delete/and try again. Once it is working, you can advise us, and we will redirect that folder to your Crash Magic import folder.
From that point forward, any files that you upload to that folder will be imported overnight and then permanently deleted.
