Creating a chart that includes data from more than one diagram.

Article created: Jun 15 1999, updated: Jun 15 1999

Background:  You want to create a single chart that shows the day of the week accidents occurred - but want several specific intersections on that one chart.

Status:  Info - "how to" article
Keywords:  chart,diagram,all data,report,combine,pdtest
Categories:   *Filters / queries* *Reports* *Diagrams* *Charts*

Explanation:

There are two ways to accomplish this.
  • 1. Create a chart with a different series for each intersection
  • 2. Create a single series chart with all the data from several intersections.

Solution:

Solution 1: A chart with more than one series.
  • step A - Create a diagram which contains the data for each of the series that you would like on the chart. (I.e. create a chart for each of four intersections) Leave all of these diagrams on the screen (don't close them)
  • step B - Select Reports / Presentation Graphics / Multiple diagrams
  • step C - Choose the diagrams to include in the chart.
  • step D - Choose the chart you wish to display
Solution 2: A chart with several diagrams in the same series.
  • step A - Create a diagram which contains the data for each of the series that you would like on the chart. (I.e. create a chart for each of four intersections) Leave all of these diagrams on the screen (don't close them)
  • step B - Select File / Build custom diagram / By combining diagrams
  • step C - Choose the diagrams to include in the chart.
  • step D - Create a chart the way you normally would, using this new combined diagram as the source. (you might want to click on the date at the top and change it to reflect the real dates from the original diagrams.
